The Ancilla Domini Community Choir and Orchestra, comprised of Sisters, residents, and community members will be performing George Frederic Handel’s masterpiece, Messiah. Handel was by far one of the most popular composers of his day, however, this piece written as a reflection of Jesus as the Christ was met with mixed public reception. Unlike other compositions, Handel showed a particular dedication to this oratorio and continued to breathe life into it. Messiah not only grew in popularity during Handel’s lifetime, but has since become one of the most popular and widely performed pieces in Western music, with the “Hallelujah Chorus” holding a special place in the hearts of many.
